The Southern Colorado Kennel Club (SCKC) is dedicated to the
appreciation of purebred dogs and to the education of
the public in ALL dog-related activities.
|
|
The SCKC is a member
club of the American Kennel Club. SCKC dates its
beginning to a club formed in the 1930s by a group of
people with an interest in purebred dogs. The first AKC
sanctioned shows and obedience trials were held on May
25, 1955. The SCKC became an
AKC member club on December 13, 1988. SCKC shows were
held at the Pueblo Greyhound Park (under the
grandstands) originally as well as at
the City Park prior to the present
location. Today shows are held at the Colorado State
Fairgrounds.
|
|
Obedience and handling classes have always been an
important part of the kennel club. Classes are held at
the SCKC Training Center at 715 N. Grand
in Pueblo. Classes are held year around
now since we have the new training facility. Prior to
the present, classes were held at the Colorado State
Fair Grounds. |
|
Community involvement includes the Pueblo Humane Society,
Pueblo Animal Services, Pueblo County 4-H clubs, and pet
therapy in area hospitals and nursing homes.
|
|
Our membership is composed of a diverse
group with an interest in many breeds of
dogs from Airedales to Yorkshire
Terriers. We have members from as far
south as Walsenburg, as far east as La
Junta, and as far west as Canon City. We
are truly a southern Colorado kennel
club. |
|
Membership in SCKC is a privilege. With privilege comes
obligation. In this website you will find copies of the
SCKC By-laws and Standing Rules. Please read the by-laws
and standing rules carefully. Items two (2) and three
(3) in the standing rules state your obligation as a
member of the Southern Colorado Kennel Club. No
organization can sustain itself without the
participation of active members. We hope you will
inquire about membership into the SCKC.
